Chariton County is located in North Central Missouri. It is named for the Chariton River, which runs through the county.
The seat is Keytesville while the largest city is Salisbury. The county is rather rural.
It borders Linn, Macon, Randoph, Howard, Saline, Carroll and Livingston Counties.
Main highways through the county include US-24, MO-5, MO-11, MO-129 and MO-139.
